The VAAC may adopt guidelines as necessary to perform the duties of the Board. The County Administrator may assign staff to support the activities of the VAAC. The VAAC shall have the following responsibilities and duties:

(1) To advise the Board on matters relating to veterans and the Veterans’ Relief Fund established under Chapter 73.08 RCW.

(2) To recommend guidelines, policies and procedures to the Board for expenditures from the Veterans’ Relief Fund.

(3) To review and adjudicate appeals from applicants who feel they were unfairly denied benefits from the Veterans’ Relief Fund. Decisions on appeals will be sent to the Administrator, who will be responsible for notifying the appellant of the decision.

(4) To advise the Administrator and the Board on the budget for the Veterans’ Relief Fund.

(5) To review and advise the Administrator prior to any appointments to the County Veterans’ Coordinator position. The Administrator will make the final appointment after full consultation with the VAAC.

(6) Perform such other duties as may be requested by the Administrator.
